Usually your part C from Medicare will pay for strips and dex com if you
have a secondary it helps. Angela

Actualy not all are on that.most are on private insurance or on state
insurance which have now become HMO providers and there are things that they
will cover and there  are things that  they wont.that is what has happened
to the state of California as it relates to government insurance services
like medicaid .

Hello Listers:

I would suggest that if one is having trouble getting your medical insurance
to cover DeXcom that if you are on Medicare you make sure that Medicare is
your primary insurance and any other insurance you have is the secondary. 

I believe many of us on this list are on some form of Medicare if they are
receiving SSDI or SSI or even retired.

I would strongly check it out as doctors are sometimes not well informed
about Medicare.

Brigit , not all insurance providers are willing to  pay the initial cost
and sensors for the dexcom versus the freestyle libre.the initial cost to
start the dexcom is about $1500 and then the renewal cost for the senssors
an transmitter costs  where  as the freestyle libre to  start initial  is
about $250 and then the sensors  that don't require a transmitter are about
$70. That cost difference is why insurance providers wont pay for dexom
versus freestyle or any other  low cost CGM solution.the insurance providers
are like bean counters they will count the  beans what makes sense for the
insurance provider that is what they will cover no  matter if you are
entitled to it or not.

when using the app. Both will tell you BGs, but the Dexcom will alert if

With the Libre, you also have to hold the device near the sensor to get a
reading, whereas you can be in a 20 foot radius with Dexcom and get
readings; and in my experience, with the Dexcom G6, it's a longer range than
this. I know Libre is allegedly working on implementing features like this,
but the fact is that Libre currently doesn't offer these features whereas
Dexcom does. For T2s, I think Libre is probably fine, but for T1s, I would
recommend Dexcom over Libre. But again, both are accessible using the app on
a smart device, and you are able to set both up with the app independently.
