I expect it is the very fact that the sighted masses are now requesting control of their insulin pumps via a smart phone will change entirely the manufacturers' take on this issue. Hopefully accessibility of their resulting apps will be factored into the process without negatively impacting their bottom lines too much.

It is very true that nothing that is available right now allows you to control the pump with an app that would be accessible to the blind. From what I have been reading about what is in the pipeline tandem plans to have the app able to control the pump in the near future but we ve heard that before right. It does appear however that their advancement of this was slow dramatically By the pandemic so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is still in the works. The Omni pod horizon which is expected to come out next year most certainly will be controlled by a phone app from what I have read. The way the Omni pod is designed it always have to be controlled by an external device because it s connected to the body. They are not Doing all this of course for just us, the blind but as everyone nowadays is so attached to their phones they find it convenient to just be able to monitor and adjust their pumps well they already have their phone out and this is especially helpful if the pump is Tucktaway Under clothing. Students and office workers are requesting an easy way to deal with their diabetes while busy in classrooms and business meetings. Parents of children with diabetes are also requesting a way to monitor and control their child s pump from another room or even while they are in school. The fact that even sighted people are requesting these remote access capabilities will help our cause.
