[Diabetes-Talk] Diabetes-Talk Digest, Vol 155, Issue 18

Hello Chad,
You will want to be sure that your Doctor or Endocronologist puts in a prescription for you to get the Prodegy Voice Talking Meter. You will need it to test your blood to be able to calibrate the Dexcom G6 when you change sensors and when you think that the Dexcom G6 is not giving you a true reading depending on how you feel.

There will be other times when you just may want to test and do a comparison between the reading of the Dexcom G6 and what your blood glucose monitor reading is.

I have not found my insurance to cover ther cost of the Prodegy Meter but my insurance will cover the cost of lancets and test strips. You will have to check with your insurance provider.

Milton

Hi everyone, thank you all for your help and advice, that helps a lot! I did talk to Humana Medicare and they said they would cover it. My next question I need to ask them is will they cover The Prodigy talking meter and decks calm? I’m thinking not but I’m holding out for decks calm because it seems easier instead of trying to prick my finger and find the blood. I will update everyone on this when I receive it. Thanks again I appreciate it. Chad

The sensor itself is literally like a sticker. The transmitter that locks into the sensor, is a little shorter and thinner than a thumb drive. It's not very big, and it is definitely not noticeable under clothes. I'm a pretty active person with two young children, and it does not get in my way.

They can also help with initial installation, and helping you get comfortable to insert the sensor and transmitter. Chad, I don't know if you have any usable vision or not, but the receiver that the Dexcom system comes with is completely in accessible for non-visual use. However, the Dexcom app is almost 100% accessible.

Sometimes, if my husband is around, I will ask him to help me line up the code inside the box on the app. My husband has some usable vision, and can usually help with this. I have used AIRA before to get the code from both the sensor and transmitter. More often than not, I will ask my oldest son. I've had more difficulty getting the transmitter code to scan then the sensor codes. Fortunately, you only need to change the transmitter every three months. It is just the sensors that you change every 10 days.

> Yes, completely agree with Milton. You definitely should contact a diabetes nurse educator to go over all this.
> Scanning the QR code is hit or miss for me. Usually, it works for me, and then every couple of changes, I suddenly cannot get it to scan.

The diabetes Educator should be familiar with the Dexcom G6 app that is very accessible on the iPhone and that person should be able to explain everything you need to know.

So, to accomplish this I have used the Aira service and I have heard others use Seeing AI from Microsoft and others have used Be My Eyes. This is your choice and you will have to decide what is easiest for you.
