[Diabetes-Talk] Newly Diagnosed Diabetic

Thanks Mary. Actually I think the research study that I shared was perhaps three or four years old but I have not seen anything more recent. The only talking meters that I am aware of are the ones that have been discussed already on this site. Prodigy voice, clever choice HD,Relion premier voice, and I think someone mentioned another one. For the majority of people who do not have a CGM connected to an insulin pump that then uses that information to make automatic insulin adjustments sort of think that most of these meters are accurate enough to give you a general idea of what your blood sugar is and then if you test frequently you can find patterns and see when it’s going up or down. The patterns are generally more important especially for people with type two than the precise number.
The times when I really want to feel I have an accurate result is when I need to calibrate the Dexcom G6.
The contour next brand of meters rated very high in accuracy. Their newest one is called the contour next one. I recently ordered one on Amazon and I am waiting for it to arrive. The reason I am hoping it will work for those of us who are blind is because it will connect to an app on the phone and I’m hoping that that app will then be accessible to read their results aloud. I will keep you posted. Unfortunately the contour next test strips are quite expensive but the best price I have found is on Amazon at about $.33 per strip which is a great deal less than the over one dollar a strip that most pharmacies are charging.
