The Dex calm G6 sensors are supposed to be accurate from the get-go but I find that this is not always the case. After starting a new sensor I usually check my blood sugar within the next hour or two to see any difference. I only calibrate if there is an extreme difference such as the time that the sensor said my blood sugar was 190 and a finger prick said that it was 150. Remember that there can be a leg time of I believe maybe 15 or 20 minutes as the sensor is actually testing interstitial fluid and not blood sugar so if the blood sugar seems to be changing give it a few minutes to see if it catches up. It’s best to calibrate when blood sugars are steady and not going up or down.  Utt iusually do a finger prick every day just to check and see how the Dexcom G6 is doing. Of course Most of us are using the Prodigy voice meter which in and of itself tends to not be the most accurate meter out there so sometimes do two or three finger prick’s and take an average of the numbers that I get. For people that have a little bit of vision the contour next blood glucose meter is much more accurate and has a very large print out which I find to be more visible in a dark room. If the Dexcom says for example your blood sugar is 125 and your finger prick says 110 I would not calibrate. This is considered close Patricia
