[Diabetes-Talk] Placement of pump infusion site

Melanie, I have spent many Midwest humid summers wearing the Waist-it and not had any problems with anything sticking to me. Now, tape and humidity? I would think that if you tape it so it won't move, then you should really just get shorter tubing. Having tape on my skin that would always be in the same place
Would get really irritating for me. Good luck.

I’m not sure what length of tubing I am using. I don’t think it is 43 though, but that, along with tape which was suggested might work to keep things snug when pulling your pants up and down. It’s so dang hot here in SC most of the time, I am reluctant to wear a waist pouch. Anything extra sticking to my skin when the humidity is 175% is just gross! But thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. This is what makes this group so great!

I bought something called a Waist-it, which is a really nice cloth holder for the pump, attached to a nice Velcro strap that went around my waist. That pretty much kept things sorted out no matter where the cannula was. Mostly I put mine in my abdomen. Now with the pods I use abdomen and the back of my arms. I have been told that the inner thighs were too vascular so I've never put one there. I haven't used my upper and outside thighs because they get my Enbrel injections. I have used my hip area but it's a little trickier to reach in order to place a pod. People do it though. I too have heard of people placing them in their breasts but I've never quite had the nerve.

My question is about the practicality of these sites such as where do you place your pump? On the arm, I can see placing the pump in your bra, but what about the leg? I see this as getting in the way when you go to the bathroom! Lol. Any advice would be much appreciated. Melanie

By using the Seeing AI app on my phone and by making a little widget to help line up the syringe, I am able to use the pump independently. That is, unless the remote completely dies and I have to replace it, starting from scratch is rough and Seeing AI will read the screen but won't tell me what is actually selected. The best we do is give ourselves the ability to use some or most of the features, but not everything. I've been using pumps since 1991 and am willing to do just about anything to keep it that way because the pump essentially gave me back my life. Our biggest obstacle is that so many of today's devices are transitioning to touch screens. Oops! So we have a lot of work to do in order to not get left out. You will likely hear from some who are using older Medtronic pumps but again, they can't use all or most of their features.

I hope that in the future we have pumps that can be run and read from a smart phone, especially if they are paired with a Dexcom. I'm happy to chat if you have any other questions.

I'm kind of chuckling just thinking of the number of people that will actually remember this name when they reorder insulin. What do you think? The companies should be required to run the names of their products through our speech synthesizers and see if they pass the pronunciation test? Hey, some of us are easily entertained. <grin.> Veronica
