[Diabetes-Talk] Another source of Contour Next One meter test strips

Hi List,

I prefer getting my supplies from Amazon but I wanted to let the list know that Walmart carries the Contour Next test strips in various quantities and prices. The lowest price per unit that I saw from www.walmart.com was just under 30 cents each for a quantity of 300 for $88.87. Here is the link to those:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ascensia-Bayer-Contour-NEXT-300-Test-Strips-For-GLucose-Care/648750390

I've also purchased Contour Next test strips from my local Walmart but the per unit price was higher than the above.

Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] More info on the Contour Next One meter including user guide download links was RE: Contour Next One meter and app question

Hi List,

I'll do my best to answer the questions posed about the Contour Next One meter and also provide some more information that will be helpful including links to an accessible user guide on both Microsoft Word and PDF formats. If I seem a bit fuzzy on the setup details, it’s because I set mine up about two and a half months ago and I’m typically fuzzy about things thirty minutes later.

I have a bit of sight that allows me to see shapes on a screen and detect light but not enough to read anything. I was able to get my Contour Next One set up without any additional assistance. The key to this in my opinion is getting the Contour app on your iPhone first and going through it as discussed in my tutorial and using the app to tweak any settings related to the meter. If one is setting up the meter using the meter instead of the app, sighted assistance would be required. Regarding the app, I don’t think sighted assistance is required getting it set up but I seem to recall there were a couple of things about it that were less than intuitive so having someone sighted around that understands technology couldn’t hurt. My main confusion was that I attempted to go online with my computer and set up an Account with Contour before my meter arrived. Don’t do this because Contour treats an account set up with a computer independently from one set up using the app on an iPhone even if the account credentials are identical. Save yourself the aggravation and only set up an account using the app and only after your meter has arrived.

To answer Eileen’s other question, you do not have to manually provide the app with your meter’s serial number. When setting the meter up with the app, the app automatically grabs the serial number after you make the Bluetooth connection between app and meter as described in the tutorial.

The best price for the Contour Next test strips I’ve seen at Amazon is $30.33 for 100 test strips. These run about 30 cents a strip while I’ve gotten Prodigy test strips for about 11 cents each. However, the Contour meter does much more when connected to the app than the Prodigy meter. Here is the Amazon link for the 100 Contour test strips:

Amazon.com: CONTOUR NEXT Blood Glucose Test Strips, 100 Count: Health <https://www.amazon.com/Contour-Next-Bayer-Blood-Glucose-Strips/dp/B0097OY70Y/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-rsf-lq2a1_0?cv_ct_cx=Contour+Next+test+strips&dchild=1&keywords=Contour+Next+test+strips&pd_rd_i=B0097OY70Y&pd_rd_r=5187433d-5209-4610-b0db-24ef18f7f3a9&pd_rd_w=JlxAK&pd_rd_wg=yAzB4&pf_rd_p=86605a31-097f-4cb9-957a-540f3d6e3dcb&pf_rd_r=M1X21JJ3R02MXKZT0HEF&psc=1&qid=1621965808&sr=1-1-49946e88-733b-44df-869b-c05699555c56> & Personal Care

The best price at Amazon I’ve seen for the MICROLET Lancets which I believe are the ones that work with the Contour lancing device is $9.89 for 100 lancets. Here is the Amazon link to those:

https://www.amazon.com/Microlet-Colored-Lancets-100-Each/dp/B001V9MY6W/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?dchild=1 <https://www.amazon.com/Microlet-Colored-Lancets-100-Each/dp/B001V9MY6W/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=Contour+MICROLET+lancets&qid=1621965163&rdc=1&sr=8-4-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEySFVJTUNXOTdGTUgmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA3NTg4MjMzOU5DNFdLSkZPQ0NTJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0MDA4NzUzUUtDTzRRM0hEUFozJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==> &keywords=Contour+MICROLET+lancets&qid=1621965163&rdc=1&sr=8-4-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEySFVJTUNXOTdGTUgmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA3NTg4MjMzOU5DNFdLSkZPQ0NTJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0MDA4NzUzUUtDTzRRM0hEUFozJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

That is a very long URL so here’s a TinyURL to the same site:

https://tinyurl.com/3uhth62s

For those who use Amazon rating reviews, both the Contour test strips and lancets listed above are rated 4.8 stars.

Finally, here is a Dropbox download link to the Contour Next One meter user guide in Microsoft Word format:

Be aware that Microsoft Office files such as this will be in protected mode the first time you open them since they come from the internet. You will need to find the button to enable editing the first time you open it and then save it again after doing so.

Here is the same user guide in PDF format for those who don’t have Word:

Alan,

Just wondering about this meter & the set up. Can you tell me the following:

1. Did you need sighted assistance in doing the set up?

2. In your instructions where you say to tap the serial number, do you need to have someone read or scan a serial number off of the meter itself or the box in order to enter it into the app or is it automatically known by the app when the meter is on?

It sounds so easy to set up I might consider getting one.

Thanks.

Eileen

Following my signature I'm pasting a short tutorial I wrote on unboxing and setting up the Contour Next One meter. I wrote this a couple of months ago so some of the pricing info and what is included in the package from Amazon might have changed.

Unboxing and initial setup

I purchased this from Amazon for $6.89 at the following website:

< <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W53ZLTK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W53ZLTK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1> <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W53ZLTK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W53ZLTK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Included in the box was:

1. Contour Next One meter with batteries already installed.

2. Case for the meter

3. Vial containing 10 Next test strips

4. Lancet device

5. Pack of 10 lancets

The Contour Next One must be paired to your iPhone using Bluetooth in order for the Contour Diabetes app to read your blood glucose scores with Voiceover. To pair the meter with the app, do the following:

1. Open the menu in the upper left of the Contour app.

2. Select the option to connect a device.

3. Two Contour devices will be shown on the screen and the Contour Next One will be the one on the left. Double tap it 4. Press and hold the Ok button on the meter until a blue light starts flashing where the test strip is inserted. The app on your iPhone should recognize the meter and prompt you to double tap the serial number to select it and execute the ok button to complete the pairing.

5. Insert a test strip into the meter and apply blood.

6. The app will announce your score.

Greg,

I have found the contour next one to be extremely consistent and accurate. I find when I first put a G6 in if the numbers are way off by calibrated once or even twice and then it stays pretty well calibrated. I do check once a day just to make sure. The app does take some sighted assistance to set up but once it’s up and running the app is very simple to use.

For example right now my Dexcom said my sugar was 55 but I did not feel that low. I decided to test with my Prodigy voice. With the prodigy I tested three times and got readings of 156, 99 and finally 75. I have no idea what my sugar is doing at the moment. From what I have read the contour next one meter is very accurate. How accessible is the app and how easy is it to pair with the iPhone. I am using an iPhone 12.
