[Diabetes-Talk] Fwd: One Important Step Towards Affordable Insulin

Hi Joyce! I totally agree, since I also entered the wonderful coverage gap. A one month supply of insulin for me now cost $150. Fortunately, my doctor was kind enough to give me a couple of sample vials of insulin to help me through this time. Rationing insulin should not be something we have to even consider in order to be able to have enough insulin without going into debt over it.

>> Dear Supporter,
>>
>> Today, Congress finally passed legislation that will make insulin more affordable—for some. While we appreciate Congress for taking a step to address this national crisis, it is a small step. Congress needs to do more.
>>
>> We will continue to demand they do more until insulin is available at an affordable, predictable price for all Americans who need it—not just Americans on Medicare who will now have their monthly insulin costs capped at $35. We need a monthly cap for individuals on commercial insurance, like the one that was removed from the bill prior to passage. We need to fix the underlying systemic flaws that created this uniquely American crisis. We need measures for the uninsured.
>>
>> Still—today was an important step made possible by you. Here’s what we do from here.
>> Continue advocating for affordable insulin. We will not stop until insulin is available at an affordable, predictable cost for all Americans who need it—including people without insurance. That has always and will always be our goal. That’s why we are supporting the Civica Insulin Project, so insulin is available at no more than $30 per vial.
>> Rally behind the bipartisan INSULIN Act. Sponsored by two long-time JDRF champions, Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Susan Collins (R-ME), we look forward to this legislation being introduced and voted on in September.
>> Stay educated. Read more about where things stand in our detailed blog by Laura Whitton, JDRF Vice President of Government Relations and Grassroots Advocacy. Also, please track this conversation on social media—it's our easiest way to share mobilizations so you can raise your voices in support of affordable insulin.
>> Thank you for all you do. Let’s ensure today was a necessary first, but small step, in the fight for insulin affordability.
