Taylor,
I switch toLyumjev and my pump exactly one year ago. It works faster than nova log in me although I can still get stubborn highs but it’s much better. Last year I had to pay a fortune for it but in working with my insurance agent in October we did a search for all the advantage plans and part D prescription drug plans in my county and found that The Regence advantage plan as well as a few others would cover it and I am now getting it for the $35 a month co-pay. The Medicare website has a section where you can put in all your medication’s and it will do a comparison of the plans in your area. It is quite a tedious process and you can also call Medicare and they can do this for you. It is my understanding that we are now in a second enrollment period in the year where a person can change their Medicare plan. I believe it ends either March 31 or sometime in March.

My doctor gave me a sample of Lyumjev, and I found it to bring them down a bit quicker without having to take tons of insulin. Like I said, my insurance would not pay for that brand, but they were fine with the Fiasp. I am on the Aetna Advantage plan. I'm not sure what my doctor did to have it be covered, but I feel fortunate that I haven't had issues getting it. You might look in to a different Medicare plan during open enrollment time. The sales people can check with their plan to see if your meds are all covered in their plan. I did a lot of checking with various Advantage plans before settling with Aetna. I started on the Humana Advantage plan, but the co-pay for insulin was astronomical. They also increased the co-pay for any specialist that I saw, which is most of my doctors. Aetna has been a great plan for my needs, although PT is still $40 a visit. Good luck!

I know they would not let me use the one type of ultra rapid insulin, so I had to go with the other brand called Fiasp. We all need to contact our senators and tell them to support the legislation that is being proposed to put a $35 cap on insulin for everyone. How many of us kind of ration insulin right now due to the high cost? I know I do. I try to only eat what 3-5 units will cover each meal. That is what concerns me about the Omnipod, since there is a possibility of wasting quite a bit of insulin if the pod expires before you use all of the insulin that is in it. With my pump, I can run the cartridge dry before changing it. I used to change out the cartridge as soon as the low-cartridge alarm went off, but now I use as much as the remaining insulin as possible before changing it.

>>> Hi Eileen! I did meet with the lead researchers for a brainstorming session about what they need to do to increase the accessibility of the Omnipod system. I'm not sure whether they have been able to consider these issues with the release of this new system, but it was a very positive meeting with them. I'm sure hopeful that they will come up with something. They have been the only pump company actually interested in helping visually impaired and blind diabetics to my knowledge. I received a call from Medtronic on Feb. 1, since my 530G is now out of warranty. She wanted to know if I wanted to upgrade! I was very nice, but gave her an earful about their lack of consideration for blind diabetics and what seems like an unwillingness to do anything about it like Insulet.
