[Diabetes-Talk] Odd experience after starting new medication

Hello everyone,

About a week ago, I was placed on a different medication, after trying
to take the lowest dose of Ozempic without much luck. Ozempic was quite
rough on my body, even at the lowest dose.

At my last appointment with my diabetes specialist, she told me that I
was doing quite well. She stated she wished most of her patients were
doing as well. My A1C was 7.3.

She had some concerns about my fasting readings, as they were high. I
was concerned about this as well. I told her that I was still struggling
with eating snacks. But that overall I was really working to make
changes. We eat quite a bit more veggies now. We also don't order out as
much. So things are improving.

She told me that 70 percent of the time, my numbers are within range. So
I was feeling quite good about all this. I expressed to her that I was
considering trying to eat more of a vegetarian way of eating, or more
plant based. She told me that this could help with inflamation, and
lowering cancer risk. But that no one way of eating was really better
than another. That mostly I just needed to focus more on eating to live.
And also to try not to eat too much things like, bread, pasta, rice, and
potatoes. And of course to limit the amount of sugar, and refined flour.

She felt that I needed a medication. I was hesitant to take one again,
because of all the struggle I have been having with them lately.

However, I thought I would give this one a try. What a mistake I feel
this has been.

She put me on Januvia. It's a 100 MG pill that I take once a day, in the
mornings.

Please know that I am not asking for medical advice. I just want to
share what has happened with me, since I started the medication. And to
find out if anyone else has ever experienced such a thing. I am planning
to contact my diabetes specialist this coming Monday.

So I have been taking the medication for a week now, and my blood sugar
readings have gone sky high! This is absolutely ridiculous, and scary. I
don't know why this is happening. I don't understand how this could be
happening.

I am now having numbers, throughout the day, in the mid 200's, and even
as high as 370. I've honestly not had these types of readings for years.
In the low 200's at times, yes. But nothing as to what I am dealing with
now.

I even have tried fasting again. I don't eat until around Noon, and I
stop eating by about 7:00, or 8:00. But this doesn't seem to matter.

Before I started the medication, I would sometimes have fasting readings
at 160, up to about 180. But this was not an every morning thing. And on
most evenings, two hours after dinner, my numbers would be in the 140's,
sometimes 150.

I am very concerned by all this. I don't know why this has all of a
sudden happened. I feel like the control I was working on, is now just
gone. It's really overwhelming me.

Has anyone ever dealt with this before?

Or know why this sort of thing could be happening?

Any thoughts, or support would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri
