In follow-up to the email I just sent I did a little bit of searching on the Internet and found that the Dexcom G6 was first released in March 2018. That was just five years ago. So of course many people have started using the G6 over the years following that which would mean that theirreceivers are not yet five years old. Looks like I might just Barely qualify if i got one as soon as they were released.

See below the forwarded message. I got today from Byram healthcare, which is the mail order durable medical equipment company that I receive my insulin pump supplies and Dexcom sensors from. The thing that jumped out at me in this email is that if the receiver that you were sent while you were using a G6 sensor is not over five years old you are not eligible to upgrade to the G7 when it is released. I personally do not have any idea how old my receiver is, nor where it is as of course, those of us who are blind, do not even use them. This is a really ridiculous Medicare rule, and I’m hoping my receiver is older than five years. as I do use a tandem pump, I will still have to wait a bit longer, but I’m hoping that will be the only barrier to slow down this process.

Patricia.

Dear PATRICIA,

As a Dexcom customer we wanted you to be aware that the new Dexcom G7 CGM System will be launching later this month, for commercial customers (NOT YET MEDICARE) with planned advertising efforts during and around the Big Game this Sunday. The new Dexcom G7 is an all-in-one wearable sensor and warms up faster than any other CGM on the market.** It sends real-time glucose readings automatically to a compatible smart device† or Dexcom receiver, requiring no §fingersticks.

Medicare covers a new receiver every five years.

If you have had your Dexcom G6 receiver for five years or longer, are not on an Insulin Pump(1), and would like to upgrade to the new Dexcom G7, you will qualify when available.

If you have had your Dexcom G6 receiver less than five years, contact us during the 5th year of service to upgrade to a new Dexcom G7 system when available.

Thank you for being a valued Byram Customer. Once the Dexcom G7 is available for Medicare beneficiaries, we will notify you.

Sincerely,

Byram Healthcare
