Hi,

I would like to say, that my endocrinologist and the trainer from Medtronic recognized I would do better using a pump and that I got my first Medtronic pump 5 1/2 years ago.  So when the warrantee ran out on my old pump I went forward.  The trainer I have from Medtronic has been great.  We have thought it out and come up with a plan on how I could do what I needed to do.  We have become a team on making this work for me.

I have a definite  attitude to learn as much as I can.  My motto is, "Don't tell me you can't do it, just sit and help me figure out how I can do it!"  Once I figure out how, I love to jump out there and talk, & teach others how to do it.  That is why I created   the NFB Krafters Division!  I put the "K" in Krafters

Hello Joyce Eileen and to whom ever else might be interested, I liked your posts and do have some questions if you wouldn't mind answering! I agree with Patricia regarding the Tandem on a number of these issues and would like to share a few others. 
regarding the T:slim X2, I am now a Tandem pumper. I used a Medtronic, for four  years prior, and have used various ones along the way for a total of 26 years now. 

This last year, when wanting to upgrade my Medtronic, or at least, looking at upgrading after a hands on demo, the Med. rep did not go out of her way, and I mean at all, to sell us one, instead, emphasized the lock screen difficulties. 
(and by the way, she was very nice). 

Previously, I had been given the o.k. from my endo to purchase another one, and after handling the Tandem T:slim as well, my husband and I agreed that this would be the only possible one workable, it's definitely a team effort whether one uses a reader or reading ap. 

I could go on and on about the struggles with filling the cartridge which might be better shared later and willing to talk with anyone about it, but my questions for now is in regard to this Medtronic 7:70.

Sorry if things have already been posted, but I was wondering Joyce, sometimes, if not always, reps freak out when a person mentions the word blind, did you happen to use this term when speaking with the Medtronic rep? 
Also, you did state that the speech is coming from the voice over on your iPhone and not the pump itself??

Filling the cartridge is a huge challenge, but actually can be done by a blind person using some adaptive measuring devices to be sure to draw up the right amount of insulin. There are two steps where you have to remove bubbles from the syringe and this can be done by holding it up to your ear, and listening for the bubbles to be pushed out. I am in the process of training a friend who is a retired nurse about changing a pump site so she could help out in an emergency and we’ve met with her twice. She is still struggling with all the steps involved and is of course fully cited. The hardest part is dealing with the infusion set it’s self. There are many steps involved, and it is easy to dislodge the set from the inserter container in which case you have to start over. Priming, the infusion set Has to be done on the touch screen of the pump itself, so visual assistance of some sort is absolutely necessary but some people are doing it remotely using the camera on their phone.  
I have tried one of the other infusion sets, which is called true steel, and is an actual steel needle that stays in the body and is inserted manually. It is a bit easier to insert But caused a lot of tissue irritation, and I also kept ripping it out as well.
