[Diabetes-Talk] What a pain Medicare is!!

Hi,

I have found that on occasion when I did a check with my glucose monitor and compared it with the reading I was getting with my G7 it was way off. I would do the calibration if you find that the G7 is showing that your blood sugar level is very low and you don't feel low, and likewise when you see your blood sugar levels go higher than the alert of 275 and you feel like you need to check so that you don't collapse you should go through the calibration process.

Hi all,
An update! My healthcare practitioner decided that she would document that I’m taking insulin, even though I’m not. She put the prescription for the Dexcom through to the pharmacy. I just got off the phone with the pharmacist who said that Medicare is demanding that the prescription for the Reader be ordered first. Of course, I’ll never use the Reader, it’s probably just another expense! However, I’ve just emailed the The practitioner and asked her please to put through the prescription for the Reader! More craziness! At least, I finally got someone who’s willing to do what it takes to hopefully get me the equipment I need. By the way, when I spoke with her, I asked about the calibration and she said that it’s not necessary with the Dexcom G7. Is that accurate? Thanks.

If you're running out of supplies, too bad! <grin> Since so much stuff has been moved to part B, and nobody understands which pumps are really pumps under Medicare, my local pharmacies won't do all of the extra Part B paper work. Why should we need so many prior authorizations just to stay alive? Boo hoo to the agency, for sure.

I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can’t appeal a denial until a supplier sends my information to Medicare, and none of the suppliers will do it, because they know that Medicare will refuse. we really need to advocate for legislation on this. This is so backwards to the way it should be. Our health is compromised and we could be so much healthier and could decrease our use of funds if we had this technology available before we progressed to needing insulin.
