I do not understand why Insulet as well as other companies are reluctant to have people who are low vision and Blind test out their products for accessibility as it could open up opportunity for additional sales for them as well as it is just morally the right thing to do to have these devices Available to our community. Although those of us with long-term diabetes and visual challenges are not new to misconceptions and discrimination regarding our abilities to operate a device as safely and efficiently as sighted users. The American Diabetes Association frequently reminds everyone that diabetes is still the leading cause of blindness in working age Americans, and it only makes sense for a diabetes device to be accessible to this community.
Right now, the package inserts and indications for use could read something like, “This device is approved for use by anyone over the age of two with the exception of adults or children whose eyesight interferes with their ability to read all screens and perform all functions.”
