[Diabetes-Talk] Pill Identifier App?

Hi, everyone. So I just downloaded a couple of these apps from the App Store and have spent quite a bit of time trying to take pictures that are clear enough for these apps to do what they are supposed to do. It is very difficult, because not only our pills small, but the imprint or numbers and letters that are on them is exceptionally tiny and need someone who knows how to focus a camera better than I think most blind people do. I have also been in the situation of opening my medication only to find a different size and shape of pill than I am accustomed to, and this is one of those cases where I think you would be best served at this time to immediately call the pharmacy and be very specific about why you are concerned and insist that somebody tell you What was filled and to check the shape of the pill in the pharmacy to make sure that it is the same thing. There is usually error checking on two or three levels, but you can never be too careful. Healthcare facilities need to understand that blindness is going to be a feature of more and more patience, and the fact is that people and Facilities need to get on board. i'm doing the best I can, but as the only totally blind student training for my doctor of Pharmacy, sometimes it feels impossible, but I know I need to keep raising hell.

Your request is complicated because there are so many different strengths and brands of pills. What you want does not yet exist.

My request is straight forward and simple. The identification method, like ScriptTalk scans a pre-recorded type label from the pharmacy. Fine that does tell me what a bottle/jar should contain. However, Pharmacists are human and can potentially make errors, and yes suppliers of meds to the pharmacies change and therefore the physical design of pills themselves. Stated simply, I want a confirmation method of scanning the physical pill, not the bottle that contains it. I want a method to scan a physical pill and go against a database to give a reassurance of what exactly I am taking when the pill physically changes. I don't know why there is such difficulty in understanding this concept. It would be a safety mechanism.

I agree with Emily. I don’t believe there is such an app if you’re looking for. I’m not sure what it is you want, because totally blind people use the ScripTalk app and some of the other things out there all of the time. I’m not sure what your problem is because I probably missed your first message. If I can help you though, I will. Thanks.
