You are correct that it would have to prick the skin, but it actually does just like the current libre sensor, which is inserted just under the skin. It apparently will be able to measure both glucose and ketones in the interstitial fluid. None of the continuous glucose monitors on the market at this point in time are actually able to go into the body and measure substances in the blood, but they measure what is in the interstitial fluid. The interstitial fluid is where substances go a few minutes after they enter the bloodstream so there is a bit of a lag time of up to 15 minutes.
