Dear Federation Family,
I am forwarding the below email to share what we did last year for door prize donations for state convention. I should have mentioned this during the meeting, so in the interest of transparency. I'm going to ask the board to vote on that amount again for door prizes. So we as a chapter will give 2 $50 door prizes to be given away during state convention. If anyone would like us to consider an alternative proposal for door prizes, feel free to share on this list or reach out to any of our board members. My contact info is below, and so is Terri's as chapter secretary. Other board members include Karly Prinds who is our vice president. Dave Hammel is our treasurer, and Sharonda Goode, Don Shepherd, and Chelsea Paige are board members as well. As I stated earlier, I should have discussed this during our meeting, so I'd like us to act swiftly on this in order to get the necessary funds to the state in plenty of time. Please submit any ideas you may have, or if you are not in favor of the chapter doing so, please let your voice be heard as well. We are $300+ ahead of our balance last year on the same date. A vote will be taken by the members of the board this week on this issue. We will share that vote on this list, and we will also share the link for our next board meeting.

> Board Meeting Minutes Des Moines Chapter 2/9/2019
> Cindy Ray is going to coordinate game night. Funding needs to come not just from the Rays. Pass a bucket around at chapter meetings for a social fund/game night. Money from the bucket can be used for a budget. We need to know the cost of game night. A ballpark figure is $50. Joe and Sharonda Goode are coordinating 50/50 today. People who handle 50/50 will be asked to come early to sell tickets. The Chapter board will meet most months via conference call and face to face at least quarterly. Mentoring and socializing can happen before the meetings. Refreshments can be served before the meeting. Get the 50/50 done before the meeting and dispense with the break. Meetings should not last after 4:00. There is not an official membership list yet. Dave Hammel has a paid list of 45. Today we will discuss priorities as a chapter. We will meet in person on May 11.
> A brief conference call will occur each month.
> Priorities include fund raising, new member recruitment, educating the public about blindness and who we are, and community service. Many hands make light work. Hold each other accountable. What we say here that is sensitive stays here. Set the example to talk to people we do not know. Help people build relationships.
> 9/24/2019 Minutes Des Moines Chapter Board
> A quorum was present. President, Mike Harvey, Vice President Karly Prinds, Secretary Terri Wilcox, Treasurer, David Hammel, Board Members Sandi Ryan and Don Shepherd.
> A city Council meeting will occur on October 14 at 4:15. The mayor will read the White Cane proclamation. Mike Harvey will briefly address the meeting. Five board members will be present. Others can be invited to join us. There was a good turn out for the pot luck. 70% of the food was left over for game night. There was a record collection for game night. We paid for the meat with the money. There was a discussion about whether the chapter would consider paying for Bingo supplies. The expense is estimated to be around $150. This might be an internal fund raiser. The Christmas party caterer we used last year is not available. The Christmas party is December 7 or 14. HyVee downtown offers two meats and 2 sides for $12 a plate. Sharon Omvig is checking on Green Briar. It is expensive but worth the money. $20 is our ceiling. Other options will be explored. We can use chaffing dishes from the Center. HyVee will be our last choice. Catering options should be nailed down by the end of September. Since the first of the year our numbers have been consistent and possibly increasing. Mike Barber suggests a pancake breakfast in the community. Plan several months ahead to get donations. A gift card raffle is also suggested. Everyone commit to asking a couple restaurants for a gift card donation. A raffle license is needed. Mike Barber suggested that Dart comes to the Chapter meeting in November to discuss scooters. Respectfully Submitted, Terri Wilcox, Secretary, Des Moines Chapter, National Federation of the Blind of Iowa
