NFB Des Moines Chapter meeting minutes January 8th 2022

NFB Des Moines Chapter Board meeting minutes. 

January 22, 2022 Minutes, Des Moines Chapter National Federation of the
Blind of Iowa

The meeting was called to order at 3:00.

Quorum President Enrique Mejia, Vice President Cindy Ray, Treasurer David
Hammel, Secretary, Terri Wilcox, Board Members Chelsea Van Gorp, Sarah
Baebler and Don Shepherd.

Guests, present were Craig Deichmann and Scott Van Gorp.

Committees

Fund Raising

Reach out to restaurants to have an Nfb night where part of the proceeds go
to the Chapter.

Have a table to talk to customers as they wait for service. Restaurants
include McAllisters Chic Fillet, Buzzard Billies, Penerra Bread, Culvers,
Pizza Ranch and El Fogon. Reports are due at the next Board meeting. Mention
Braille Literacy and Bell as  reasons for funding.  

Member Spotlights Any member can share how a hobby or job is done
nonvisually. Interested members send a message to a board member.

Hybrid meetings connect members who are at risk with the chapter.
Circulating microphones will help clarify events. Sarah Baebler, Chelsea Van
Gorp, and David Hammel will handle Zoom for Hybrid Meetings.

The 50/50 can be done both with cash and a personal PayPal or cash app.
Members will be asked which app they prefer. Chelsea Van Gorp volunteers her
cash app which is  Braillebug.              

Braille Challenge A stem related activity is needed for the Nfb table. Sarah
Baebler will assist.

The NFB will host dinner for independent Living Integration preferrably on
April 12. Lassagna is suggested, along with salad, rolls and desert.

It is suggested that game night be resumed for Orientation Center Students.
Members may donate either with cash or the cash app.

Philosophy Discussions are a vital part of Chapter meetings.           

Reach out to Orientation Center students about National Convention.

It is suggested that those who have not paid dues by January 1 are
ineligible to vote. An email reaching out would help keep people current.
Sarah Baebler moved to table this for the next meeting. 

The next Board meeting is February 19 at 3:00.

Sarah Baebler moved to adjourn the meeting. David Hammel seconded the
motion. The meeting was adjourned at 4:30.
