The survey is now live to give DART feedback for the next step in the Reimagine DART process. The decision that needs to be made now is do we want a system that goes fewer places more frequently, or more places less frequently. I’ve read into this quite a bit, so if anyone has questions, feel free to ask. I encourage anyone who uses DART to read the info and take the survey. Note I found the original report that came out a month or two ago more informative and helpful than the maps that just came out. The tables of bus routes are helpful if you know the current system pretty well.

We plan to change bus routes and services beginning in summer 2026 to meet central Iowans' evolving travel needs. Over the next few weeks, we invite you to share feedback on two maps and other choices for how we design our new network.  

Learn About the Maps

Earlier this year, our staff worked with transit experts to draw two maps: 

One map prioritizes high ridership. In this design, a transit network has fewer total bus routes, but buses run more often, all-day, 7 days a week along the busiest streets. This type of network may mean some people have to walk farther to a bus stop or have no access to public transit.  

The other map prioritizes high coverage. In this design, a transit network has more bus routes and other types of service that ensure more people are close to public transit. Buses may run less often in this type of network because the service is more spread out.  

We will ask you to look at the two maps and consider what type of transit network you want. 

These maps only demonstrate the choices we must make and do not reflect the new transit network we are proposing for the region.

Who Should Provide Feedback? 

Everyone! Your input matters to us. We want to hear from as many people as possible so we can design a network that works best for our riders and the communities we serve.

We will present a summary of your input to DART’s governing body, the DART Commission, in May before local elected leaders decide priorities and budget for designing a new transit network. With that direction, we will draw a draft transit network and bring it to you for feedback in August.

Attend a Public Meeting
We also invite you to join us at a public meeting this month. At each public meeting, DART staff will give a brief presentation and answer questions during the first half hour. You will then have a chance to look at the maps and take the survey. Each person who attends a meeting and completes a survey will receive a promo code for one free weekly local bus pass in the MyDART app.
