Sorry to be at the near last minute with these. I was not at the November meeting so a big thanks to Terri Wilcox for taking minutes.
Draft MINUTES 11/8/2025
Des Moines Chapter
National Federation of the Blind of Iowa
Hope-Elam Church
2500 University Ave.
Pledge of Allegiance and Federation Pledge
The meeting was called to order at 2:00.
Ten members were present.
Secretary's Report
* Helen Mejia moved to accept the Secretary's Report Enrique Mejia seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Treasurers Report David Hamel
* Reporting Period August 31 2025 through 10/31/2025.
* Starting balance $1,906.60. Ending balance: $1,691.20 .
* Terri Wilcox moved to accept the Treasurer's Report. Sharon Omvig seconded the motion. The Treasurer's Report was approved.
Presidential Release 554 was played.
State Report, Helen Mejia
* More involvement is needed in committees including Membership, Legislation and Convention planning.
* Federal employees dealing with rehabilitation and special education have been let go.
* Proposals for hotels for State Convention are needed before the end of December.
* Voting concerns were discussed. Ballots are different sizes than the regular ballot.
Dues need to be given to the treasurer David Hamel by December 31. Dues are $5.00.
Members are encouraged to keep recycling To raise money for the chapter. Make arrangements with Becky Young for redemption.
The calling committee had no report.
The social Committee is organizing a Chili Christmas Party. Roger and Karly will bring chili. The Mejias will bring corn bread. Terri will bring oatmeal peanut butter chocolate no bakes. The party will be at 2:00.
Rosa Walker spoke about advocacy.
Roger Erpelding moved to adjourn. Scott Van Gorp seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned.
