[Dtb-talk] downloading books

Well, I don't know exactly how to answer that question, especially if
you're having no problems downloading the book. When you click *Open*
does the RFBD Downloader then launch?

I've helped a number of students install the downloader and retrieve
their first RFBD downloads. Typically, if the "open, save, or cancel"
window pops up, it's because the downloader isn't installed.

Installing it is just the click really, it's pretty quick and doesn't
even require an admin login for our network, which usually requires
admin login in order to scratch behind one's ear. However, after
installing and downloading on my office machine, I couldn't get it to
install properly on my home machine, causing me to wonder about some
restriction per user account. I'd prefer to download any books for
myself at home, while using my work computer to train students or, as
with Mac users, to download their books using their accounts so they can
transfer them to a Stream. It seems, though, that I'm locked into the
use of my work machine if I want anything from RFBD for my personal
use.

I agree with the sentiment that it's all overly complicated, especially
when we compare it with the relative ease of the NLS downloads. The one
advantage that RFBD has, it turns out, is that you can click on a number
of packets at once in the RFBD Downloader and speed up the download
process, given the limits of your connection and RAM and so forth. This
has considerable appeal to the college-aged user. (grin)

How does one "properly" install the download manager? Frankly, I just
wish I
could download a zipped file and handle it all myself. Oh well.
