Another possible solution would be to use the experience of this forum,
and have people list which drives DO work without problems. I had to
burn through 4 brands and 6 different sizes before finding a compatible
drive. Surprisingly, the one that does work the best, is on many lists
as not working at all. I very much dislike being held hostage by
anything proprietary.
I have purchased a couple of the blank cartridges, and they are very
convenient, but I find myself feeling cheated somehow, because everyone
else can enjoy double the capacity or more for the same price.
I'd love to see someone sell a cartridge that is at least 2 GB for a
fair and competitive price, or even better, a cartridge housing that
accepts compatible SD cards would be the ultimate solution.
The one drive I found that works well is the SanDisk Cruzer 2 GB
available from Amazon for less than ten dollars and free shipping.
Warning: some of these drives come with various software packages on
them, which should be removed prior to inserting the drive into the NLS
machine.
Hoping you find this helpful,
Scott

Some flash drives do not work with the NLS player...
