[Dtb-talk] weird Stream

There may be an oddity with that 8gb card. If you can play all the books, I
wouldn't worry about it. However, one never knows. The fact that the SD card
reader on your laptop won't handle it makes me wonder if there's some subtle
incompatibility between the SD card (either in timing or speed or subtle
functioning, e.g., when the card sleeps etc.) and your devices that renders
it unuseable under some circumstances and which might lead your Stream to
not be able to accurately ascertain free space etc. This would make me
wonder whether you *really* got all of those books on there intact or
whether some files were corrupted or truncated. You'll never know unless you
put the books on an SD card you trust and run some sort of checksum or
difference utility to ascertain if the files are identical.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, I have suspected for a long time that there's
a fairly subtle bug in the Stream firmware in the algorithm for computing
free space on an SD card. Consequences of such a possible bug have never
bitten me to date but then I've never maxed out a card (I use a 32gb card
for my workhorse card).

I am moved to wonder why you formatted the SD card in your Stream before
using it? Most cards these days are already formatted and the stream will
install the appropriate folders on any card inserted into it whether you
format the card or not.

Keep us posted on your experiments.

Mike

Subject: [Dtb-talk] weird Stream

I've discovered something kind of odd with my Stream. When I use the 2 GB SD
card that came with it, it accurately tells me how much space and recording
time that I have.

However, I have an 8 GB SD card that was given to me. I popped it into the
Stream and formatted it and the Stream told me I have 7.3 GB left. So, so
far I've downloaded 51 books. The stream is telling me I have 7.0 GB and the
recording time is the same as before I downloaded the books. Anyone know
why? I find it hard to believe that fifty-one books are only 300 MB and I
know they've probably about 300 recording hours total.
Also the other funny thing is that the card reader on my laptop will read
the Steams SD card but not the 8 GB one that I have and that's even after
it's been formateed.
Any thoughts?
