[Dtb-talk] Flash Drives versus Cartridges: Updated Contact Information for Perkins Products

Here in MN you can buy a compatible USB cable for cartridges at Dollar Tree (obviously, for $1.00!) it's a simple USB extension cable. Might be available in other places too - worth a look.

Most flash drive problems can be dealt with using options.xml. Too much to write out on the iPod, but it's a simple procedure of dropping an XML file in the root of the flash drive. Works nearly all the time- only seen it not work on one drive and I've tried literally over a hundred drives in the players. (this of course assumes you remove u3 Or other weird stuff like that)

That being said, this is still great info as a source for the carts themselves. It's nice to not have a drive sticking out the side of the device asking to be broken, and not man drives are long and thin enough to be used in the cart port.

We frequently hear from frustrated readers who, when trying to use flash drives, have received error messages such as "No book available" and "Cartridge error." Others hear introductory material and then "End of book." We urge anyone with an NLS digital player who intends to download books from the BARD site to purchase blank cartridges designed specifically to be used with the NLS player. Of course, if you plan only to use NLS books supplied on cartridge through the mail, there is no need to purchase blank cartridges.

Your local or regional NLS-affiliated library is available to answer any questions you may have about your free NLS player and downloading content to it using a cartridge.
