Job Description:



This position evaluates audio recording applicants and volunteers for Minnesota State Services for the Blind's Communication Center.

1. Maintains on-going assurance of Communication Center recording volunteers and audio products.

2. Evaluate recording volunteer applicant oral reading tests and assist in employee and applicant oral reading test evaluations.

3. Assist in Communication Center customer service initiatives and activities, as assigned, and in other activities, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must pass the Communication Center audio quality technician with a 95% passing score PRIOR TO Possible Interview. This involves evaluating sample readings for accuracy and delivery issues, comparing the audio transcription with the standard print text. Test materials include college-level text.

Demonstrated ability to read standard print, sufficient to determine the accuracy of audio transcriptions of printed material.

Demonstrated ability to hear, sufficient to evaluate a broad range of audio quality issues in audio recordings and to evaluate the oral presentation of a broad range of printed subject matter, including highly technical materials, poetry, and prose.

Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills to persons of varied skills, abilities, and intellect.

Demonstrated ability to use, access, store, retrieve, and manipulate electronic files, including downloading, retrieving and transferring from website and computer programs to computers and other hardware.

Demonstrated excellent computer word processing, email, and web searching skills.

Preferred Qualifications:



Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree or higher.

Knowledge of and the ability to apply technical information about recording equipment and accoustical issues to professional voice recording.

Knowledge of basic oral reading and vocal skills.

Experience producing or evaluating audio transcriptions or experience transcribing standard print materials into audio (as a reader).

Experience as a volunteer.

Knowledge of and experience with a DAISY recording software program.

Experience training and/or teaching.

Knowledge and understanding of educational, vocational, and access technology needs of persons with barriers to accessing printed materials.
