[Dtb-talk] An interesting look at RFB&D's financials

I think the key here is the next-to-last name of Learning Ally -- Recording
for the Blind and Dyslexic -- the blind are gradually being maneuvered into
the background.

Hmm, wonder how the new $119 membership fee plays into all of this. It'll be
interesting to see what they do on future tax returns.
The membership fee is outrageous. Bookshare's is reasonable at $50 per year.
I wonder how many people will boycott Learning Ally after this article
and/or the membership fee.

I for one will not renew my membership until the fee is more reasonable or
nonexistent.

I'm also amazed at how back in the day, RFB&D told Roy Avers he was too
emotional for reading textbooks and he could go across the street
(literally) to APH and get paid to record. I'm glad he did. But, that also
makes me wonder if that's the case why they have a fiction section and keep
adding to it. I get stuff like Dickens and other stuff like that because
that's used in schools and colleges. But when did you ever read a Robert
Ludlum novel in a high school American Literature class? Sure would be more
entertaining and easier to understand than Hawthorne or Melville.
