You would also have to compare cost of production via different contractors versus commercially produced books. I think the first recommendation is the best; get information from NLS or your congressperson.

1.    Get the answer directly from your NLS library contact

2.    Pore through the NLS finances.  You can probably get to an average acquisition (not just production) cost by dividing the total acquisition expense by the number of books added.  May have to drill down to categories, as NLS purchases and processes items in more than one medium (Braille books may cost more to produce than audiobooks, for example).

Ideally, an NLS annual report will give you the info you want without going through the hassle of dismembering financials.
