Greg:
I don't mean to down play your concerns, but they have come up before, and I am sure that the people who plan our Convention, and make arrangements are aware of these, and other issues.
The whole thing is a balancing act, and whatever you do, somebody will be unhappy. People have different needs and desires and you can't meet them all with each location. It is all a balancing act. First and foremost, the hotel rate must be good, and ours have been. It is harder to get good rates these days though, many more conventions around, and July 4th week, which used to be an off week, isn't as much. And ... if you go to the east coast, then west coast may be unhappy, if you move around too much, somebody will complain, if you don't move, somebody will complain, etc. etc. etc.
This is a long run in Orlando, but it did get us great rates for a long period of time. Whether or not that is the right thing to do, depends on the individual and what you think.

While I can appreciate that hotel cost must be considered there is anther cost factor here and that is the cost of transportation for us who are not located along the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
While those of you so situated can get relatively inexpensive flights or even trains to Orlando those of use coming from the west coast find that Orlando is not easy to get into and out of with out somewhat elevated costs. The other issue is that there would seem to be the possibility of "venue fatigue" if Orlando is to be the permanent home of the NFB conventions going forward where at some point everyone who goes to these events start to feel like they have seen and done everything there is to see and do in Orlando.
Just wanted to point out these issues.
