[DTB-Talk] Beep tones?

I think what is being described is the "Technician Service Level" as described in the "Digital Talking-Book Player Service Manual", which I obtained it from a now kaput wiki formerly operated by the Materials Development Division and hosted on the Library of Congress website. The information was publicly accessible, even if it was not publicized.

According to the March 2009 edition "[t]he Technician service level is intended primarily for use by librarians and technicians. At this level, access to an audio interactive menu is provided to check the current condition of the player’s systems, read accumulated usage statistics, and adjust various settings." To enter the Technician Service level, turn off the DTB player, then press and hold Rewind, Sleep, and Tone Down, while pressing Power; use the Fast Forward and Rewind key to cycle through the menus, and use Play/Stop to select; to exit, power off the player.

None of the Service Manual refers to changing the volume of, or turning off entirely, the beeps. I suspect that that the "beep when a key has been pressed" feature is implemented deep in the DTBM's firmware, making it effectively unchangeable.

Yes, it has, as I used to know how to do it. I just don’t remember.

Chris.

I'm talking about the beeps when you start playing, or pause, etc.
