[Electronics-talk] digital Recorders

Plextor gave me a Pocket to try out and comment on. It does not yet
play NLS or RFB&D books, but it's only a matter of time before these
libraries authorize the Pocket to play their books. It works fine with
Bookshare books, though.

The Pocket is a very nice recording device. It permits recording in
several formats. It also allows users to create their own Daisy markup
of the recordings. This includes editing the recordings with headings
and voice headings and bookmarks.

The Pocket is a competitor for the Victor Stream. It will be important
to look at reviews that compare the Pocket and Stream because each has
its strengths and weaknesses. Both will be upgraded over time, though,
which is great news for consumers.

I think the Pocket can be purchased commercially now, but I'm not sure
where one can get them. The cost is about $360. For more information,

Andy, are you saying the Pocket can't play the NLS cartridges? It can
do the digital downloads, can't it?

There is also the new Plextalk Pocket, which I believe records in
stereo. Unfortunately, at this time it cannot play the NLS DTB's.

I agree Victor stream is high quality and picks things up very well.
I
tired DS-50 and like Victor Stream better; easier to use.
