I bought some stereo folding speakers that I put under my pillow at night. 
They are about 4-1/2 inches high when folded and about 7 inches wide when 
unfolded.  They have an one-inch jack, volume control, on/off switch and 
uses 3 AA batteries.
Got them from Radio Shack for about $30.
