You can get some phones which will read text messages. My brother is 
blind and on Verizon, and he just got the LG Lotus. He can work with the 
contacts, get caller ID, work with most of the menus and send and 
receive text messages. I know because once he got it, he started 
peppering me with text messages. BTW, I'm on AT&T and I use Talks on the 
Nokia N75.
