[Electronics-talk] Digital TV Options for TV Radios

I disagree. While I only have 12 digital channels at this time, I am
familiar enough with the program formatting and such that 99% of the
time I can tell what channel I am on either by program, or
characteristics of the audio transmitted by the station. I am amazed at
the subtle differences even with the new digital technology.
As for lost remotes, buy two and put one away, grin.

Another problem I thought of that would complicate the use of a DTV
converter box with a wireless FM transmitter is that these boxes can
only be operated by their included remote control units. This means
that you have to be in the same room as the box to change channels,
adjust volume and the like. Some boxes have only a front-panel power
button and no other controls, which is seldom mentioned in the product
description. So if the remote gets lost or damaged, you're out of
business. And none of these boxes display the channel number on the
front panel, so it still has to be connected to a TV if you want visual
confirmation of the selected channel.
Don't think that you can simply memorize the channel lineup. Many
stations broadcast a number of digital subchannels in addition to the
main channel, so it would be impossible to know for sure what channel
you're on without some kind of visual feedback.
