[Electronics-talk] car stereos as an accessible home alternative?

Group,

        After looking at home stereos, many with tiny remotes and less than 
intuitive buttons   I've been contemplating buying a car stereo with the 
features I want, running it through a transformer and connecting it to a set 
of speakers and possibly an external antenna.  I know this sounds like a lot 
of work, but in my thought process the well lit screen and intuitive button 
setup of a car stereo makes up for the extra work.  I'm already doing this 
with a CB radio, and will likely be doing this with a radio scanner, so why 
not a car stereo?

Anyone else done or considering this, or is this one more example of me 
making a simple task more complicated?
