[Electronics-talk] Digital Talking Book Players

When the NLS program fully rolls out, you'll get a library of congress
player for free. The library of congress machine is a bit smaller
than the existing cassette machines, but not exactly portable.

So, a lot of people will buy a more portble NLS player.

Humanware released the "library" eddition of the stream. All it is is
the regular stream, plus a cartridge holder (which you can buy
separately) and a media card with a bunch of free reading material on
it.

In other words, the stream library eddition is meant to make it less
confusing for folks to know exactly what you need to play library of
congress books *if* you don't download them of the internet.

To summarize...

1) You'll get a library machine for free sometime in the next while.
2) The stream, booksense, and the rest or much more portable.
3) If you can download books off the internet, then you don't need
   anything else.
4) If you want the library to send you cartridges (you don't have a
computer, your internet connection sucks, or whatever) then you
*can* get the cartridge holder, which makes it more convenient to
play the cartridges on the stream. You can buy the library
eddition of the stream, or you can buy the cartridge holder
   separately.
5) You can also plug the catridges into the stream using one of the
USB cables that came with the stream.
6) It's unclear if the cartridges will work with the booksense because
the cartridge won't have the folder layout that the booksense
needs. I'm guessing if it doesn't work now, a future software
upgrade will make them work. However, there are no announced plans
for a cartridge holder for the booksense.
