You can still order raised line checks through some banks.  You just have to
ask the bank to order them.  I used them with my typewriter for years.  I
kept my small manual typewriter as long as I could find ribbons for it just
so I could type checks.

Years ago APH offered raised checks that could be inserted in to a 
typewriter that they had printed and if using them you could fill in the 
lines by lining them up in the typewriter. This was back in the early 70's.
