A search on Bing for something like "MP4 file extension" will provide tons
of info on the MP4 file extension. It's natively supported by iTunes,
Quicktime and other media players. I assume you can get plug ins for WMP,
Winamp and so on. I personally use Switch Audio Converter from
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html to convert my MP4 files into MP3
files. I don't do any editing myself, but looking on Bing, it seems that
Goldwave and Soundforge will let you edit MP4 files.

Mark,
The way I understand it is that MP4 is primarily Video from what I remember
my dad telling me about it. It's compressed more then MP3 is I believe. Here
is a link on the differences between MP3 and MP4.
