For probable reception reasons as well as sound quality reasons I think
the proposal is a good idea to implement on only an experimental basis
with people who do lots of traveling in the United States to areas which
have poor quality FM reception. If such phones get better performance
than FM radios in these areas I would have a second experiment done in
high quality areas just to make sure expected high quality results
happen. If the first experiment fails, people might want to consider
modifying cell phone towers so they have FM antennas as part of their
construction and then possibly somehow put each station on its own
dedicated stream that can be sent to the phones when selected. I really
can't see any way possible for the first proposed experiment to come up
successful in St. Mary's County Maryland or Calvert or Charles County
either. I may be wrong, and I'd like to be, but I'm worried about this
one.
