Is it easy to find and read received text messages? That is
currently my
problem on NV3. I can send them, can't get the unspoken pattern
down to
receive and read messages sent to me.

Hello Ray,
All dialed calls, answered calls and missed calls speak! Only
the missed
calls spoke on the LG phones. I set a wake up alarm, tied a
ring tone to
a contact, sent numerous text messages thus far. The TTS engine
goes one
speed! Most menus speak from the phone's speaker, only a few
commands go
to the ear piece only! Plugging in external headphones may be
the only
way to get complete privacy if that concerns you! One may need
an
extended battery if one uses the phone heavily! There is a
dedicated 911
key but the phone has a prompt asking whether one wishes to do
this or
not! That key isn't as pronounced to the touch as others so
that's an
advantage. When texting, one only hears the letter echoed. One
cannot
read the text message after it was entered. Keep them short and
sweet and
you should be fine! One has 160 characters for each message.
Almost like
twitter! One can delete all text messages as well! One can
clean out
calls as well! House cleaning is easy! This phone does not
connect to the
internet nor does it have GPS. It doesn't have a camera! It is
a basic
phone with great accessible features! It is a good low cost
accessible
solution! If this is what you want, it is a great solution! For
those of
us on Verizon, it is about time! For now, it will be my phone
till the
I-phone is available (grin smile)! The blind users Verizon
phones lists
has been discussing this almost non stop for three or four days
now!
Curtis Deltzer is preparing a podcast about this phone where
he'll go into
depth about its capabilities. I don't have a link for this
yet!

Okay. What's better about it than the LG line? Do all the
levels of
menus talk? How about caller ID info? Will it announce the
name and or
number of the calling party?
Very important as I'm thinking about this one for sure.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

Hello Andy and list,
My wife and I got this phone Thursday! It certainly isn't
perfect but
much better than the LG offerings from VZW.

A friend of mine recently bought a new cell phone from Verizon
Wireless.
It is called the Samsung haven. It is apparently a basic no
frills cell
phone, but he says that all menus and functions speak. You can
get it on
an upgrade for $39, or for $169 if you are not eligible for an
upgrade,
or are a new VZW customer. He did say that the speech seems to
drain
the battery faster, but there is a long life battery that you
can get
for $45. Considering that model runs for cell phones seem to be
getting
shorter and shorter, you might want to snatch this one up pretty
soon if
you are interested. With the eminent passage of the 21st
Century
Communications and Video Accessibility Act, you will probably
soon see
an increase in offerings of accessible phones. It is possible
that
Samsung is being proactive here.
