[Electronics-talk] audio described TV programming

The sad reality is that there is very little described audio programming
these days. PBS offers the most audio described programming followed by a
few cable channels like Turner Movie Classics and Lifetime, but the major
over-the-air networks offer little or no described programming. If they use
their SAP channel at all, it is usually to carry a foreign language
soundtrack. The fault for this lies squarely with the blindness advocacy
organizations who have done little to force broadcasters to offer more
described programming. We were promised that more described programming
would become available after the transition to digital TV, but this has not
happened. Thanks to the efforts of deafness advocacy groups, the deaf have
tons of Closed Captioned programs to watch. But we blind consumers are
still being left in the dark (pun intended) when it comes to described audio
programming.
