[Electronics-talk] TV

A digital TV will probably negate the need for a cable box, at least for
first tier cable service. You most likely won't need a box unless you
want premium channels. I have Time Warner Cable, and I have an old
analogue set plugged into the naked cable, without any kind of a box.
It will pick up about 75 channels. However, about 3 weeks ago, it
stopped picking up TWC's analogue broadcast of our local PBS station,
and now I can only watch it on a digital set. I was told that within
two years the cable companies will no longer broadcast analogue
channels, and your analogue set will be basically a brick, and you will
need either a digital set or a cable box even if you are using cable. I
believe the 2009 law does allow for analogue sets below a certain screen
size, I believe 20 inches, but I have not seen analogue sets in our
local Best Buy store in a long time.
