I still have a g e and is the 3.  It works well.  My only beef is that a m is getting clogged with h d which creates problems.  Also in chicago are many stations are turning off h d on a m.

It really depends on what you want in a radio.,  C-Crane has many of these. 
They have one analog radio similar to the old GE super Radio which also has 
a pre-select or antenna trim which can peak up a part of the band you are 
listening to.  Most of the CC radios can be operated 90 percent of the time! 
A Tim Hendel has done tutorials on a number of these and I think if you know 
him, he could give you some ideas on what you can get from there.  If you 
really want a superb long reach radio, these are very good.  I have the CC 
Radio two and it works very well!
