[Electronics-talk] DH radios and digitral TV audio

At this time, there ain't no such animal. Nobody has yet figured out a way
to build a small, portable radio receiver that can also receive the sound
portion of digital TV broadcasts. Digital TV transmission has some very
serious limitations that the lame-brains at the FCC neglected to take into
account when they rammed this new standard down the throats of American
consumers two years ago. Of course, the special needs of blind consumers
were never taken into account, so today, if you want to listen to TV
broadcasts, you usually have to sign up for cable or satellite service
because in many locations, it is impossible to get decent over-the-air
reception with an antenna. And therein lies the biggest problem with
digital TV recettion. Unlike analog TV signals, which remain fairly
constant as you move around, digital TV signals fade in and out even with
slight movement of the antenna, so until someone figures out a way to
overcome this reception hurdle, you will not see portable radios with
built-in TV sound like in the good old days. For about $60 or $70, you can
buy a small 7 inch portable LCD digital TV, but these units have not
received favorable reviews because of their lousy reception.
