[Electronics-talk] Accessible Web browser

This is the rub with Android. The freedom of choice that everyone touts
as being such an important advantage, creates a mine field for anyone
with special needs. To date, Ice Cream Sandwich is only running on
about 3% of all Android phones. And, it will probably only run on the
high end phones that have the faster processors and most memory. Google
has pretty much given free reign to the carriers and phone manufacturers
as far as being able to modify the user experience. Many manufacturers
place their own "skin" on their phones, and this may hamper efforts to
make the phone accessible. The screen readers and accessibility
solutions for Android assume that you have a phone that is running the
stock version of Android. This is like trying to buy a PC that is
running a vanilla Windows setup without a shell that the manufacturer
stick on, like the Dell user experience. I know many people who are
having a very satisfactory experience with Android, but they are
generally geeks, or have friends who are geeks. You will need to do a
lot of research before selecting a carrier and phone, and you will need
to continue to do research to keep up with new developments, that are
coming fast and furious. Personally, I love the iPhone because I am not
a geek, and I want to keep things simple. If I were to go to Android, I
would probably invest in the Mobile Accessibility suite because I am not
into tinkering, I just want things to work. That is the thing that I
like about Apple, Things just work.

Subject: [Electronics-talk] Accessible Web browser

Hi Everyone. I am looking for an Accessible web browser
for the Android system. The Ideal Web Reader was supposed to be
accessible, but it is no longer in the android market. Is there
anything else besides Mobile Accessibility?

Also I am looking for more info about Android's Ice
Cream Sandwitch. For those who don't know Ice Cream sandwitch is a
version of Android, and for those who are now feeling hungry I'm sorry.
*smile* Basically I want to know if my phone will ever get that software
update. I have a Samsung Sidekick 4g which is new enough that I think
it should get updates, but Samsung is not forthcoming with any info, so
any help would be appreciated.
