Is that so?  Here in New York City,  a licensed electrician charges a 
minimum of $100 per hour, regardless of the nature of the problem.  And what 
if the problem is more complicated than simply replacing the power cord?  So 
in the end, repairing a 20-year-old microwave makes no economic sense when 
you can buy a new one for less.  Besides, it is unlikely that an electrician 
could even find replacement parts for a unit this old.
