[Electronics-talk] OCR Scanners

Gabe,

If you read his note carefully, he is talking about the menus that appear on the LCD display and not the
menus that show up on a computer screen. What he is saying is misleading as some of these all-in-one
devices do permit some of the setup to be done with a computer and with software. Contrary to what you
are saying, though, some of these printers can be set up under Windows. I do not doubt that there are
probably cases where VoiceOver may do a better job than Windows screen readers. For one thing, some
JAVA support is more integrated with VoiceOver. These things are often more complicated than it seems
on the surface, though, and I think it makes sense to read the notes carefully before insulting people.

I think the days that most people assume something will work on Windows and not on the MAC are passed.
There are times when either platform will do better than the other, and some of us are forced to work in
Windows because of requirements of our employers, for example. Words like "chop shop" and
"brainwashed" are words designed to generate anger. It would be interesting to have specific examples
of setup procedures that are known to work on the MAC and not under Windows so pressure can be put on
Windows screen readers to keep up. For now, we need to do what we can to keep both platforms as
accessible as possible since we have to deal with both.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

potential customers that would research me and say something so outlandish that I would lie about being
able to install these? have you ever installed one of these on a mac? can you with definite positivity
tell me it can't be done? are you so brain washed by jaws and windows that you can't believe that
software is so much more accessible as a standard on Mac OS?. believe it buddy, it happens every day.
this is why I use a mac.

most definitely need sighted assistance to set up. There is no way a blind person can navigate through
the menu options displayed on these units' built-in screens. There are no all-in-one units on the
market that have built-in speech of their own, so it doesn't matter whether you are using a Mac or a
Windows PC with JAWS; you still need sighted help.

are fully accessible with voiceover on the mac, I've set up several of these for my job and I have to
say, I wonder why people keep themselves behind using such as outdated old day technology.
