I haven't got a clue if you can use iTunes to transfer files to the Olympus recorders. Go online and find the Olympus 800 customer service number. They can answer all of your questions. I do not knowif Radio Shack sells them. Best Buy sells some of them. Staples, Office Depot and MicroCenter might sell some as well. You can also order directly from Olympus. I got my first Olympus recorder from Overstock.com

Since I want the recording feature too, an Olympus recorder sounds good.
Can you buy these at actual stores? Maybe radio shack? Buying online does not give the flexibility to ask a store rep questions and explore the model.
tactually.
I also want the mp3 player
to be able to download stuff from my iTunes account via my pc. Just so you know what I'm looking for.
Glad to know Olympus models actually have buttons. makes it easier to use then.

Depending on how you want to use the MP3 player, you might want to consider one of the Olympus digital recorders. I believe that there are 4 models that have voice prompts built in. I believe that 2 of the models are the
DS420 and DS620. These devices allow you to record messages or anything else you want to record in any of 5 folders, and then have a folder for MP3 files and a folder for podcasts. You connect the device to your PC via a USB cable and just copy the desired file to the folder on the digital recorder. You can also copy your recorded voice messages to your computer for storage or access on the computer. You can expand the device's memory by using a SD card. If my memory serves me correctly, both models have the ability to add bookmarks during both recording and playback. This is great for when you are recording a lecture and you want to mark a point in the session that you need to reference at a later date. I do not think you can use the bookmarks with the MP3 files. Both of these devices are easy to use with actual buttons on the face of the device.
If you can come across the Olympus DS 30, 40 or 50, you will find similar features. These devices are no longer made, but you might come across one.
HTH,
Annette

thanks, this looks good. I've checked the archives; I thought I saw that ad somewhere in last month's archives. but I wasn't sure where to buy it; looks like you buy online, based on what you posted here.

Here's some information that was just posted to the list before you joined. This is an off the shelf MP3 player where the firmware has been replaced by an open source alternative called Rockbox. You could do this yourself or buy a MP3 player from this web site, where it's already been done for you. Rockbox is meant for adiophiles and wasn't made especially for the blind, but it does have some eyes free features which makes it accessible.
Get our latest player, the Talking Sansa Clip Zip as low as $79.99 with big discounts on accessories and microSD cards! This is the redesigned successor to the Clip+. It's tiny, very light, and it clips to your clothes with its newly-improved built-in clip, no need for a case! The player's newly redesigned face and controls make for a superior user experience, even for those who have large fingers. I've been testing this player for a few months now, and I'm really impressed with the improvements and the new control design! Of course it has all the features one expects from one of our Talking MP3 players! It's just a tad larger than the Clip+ and there's not much difference in weight. These are brand new players and have a limited
11 month warranty! The introductory price for the 8GB Clip Zip Talking MP3 Player is $95.99 and the 4GB is only $79.99! Add to that the 25% off all accessories with your purchase, this week and you end up with very big savings!
Also continued is the 45% off blow-out special on all microSD cards:
4, 8, 16, and 32GB, with no other purchase necessary! Great savings to be had on microSD cards especially the 32GB cards! These can be ordered from the player page, specials page, or accessories page. You can now also order 64GB microSD cards specially set up for use on our players for $99.99 from the accessories page!

The brand new Sansa Clip Zip is the newly redesigned successor to the
Clip+. It has the same features as its predecessor but with newly
designed controls and other improvements including a sturdier clip and a better FM chip. After running this player through its paces, I'm really impressed with the changes and upgrades they made to this latest addition to the Clip line of players.
We offer mainstream Sansa MP3 Players which we've modified into Talking MP3 Players enabling blind/vision-impaired individuals to use them without sighted assistance. They don't require any music management software, have accessible talking menus, and are fairly priced. Our players arrive fully set up and speaking, and you can use your choice of the included utilities to enable the speaking of your own folders and files. To listen to a presentation done using a Clip+, visit http://www.talkingmp3players.com/demo.html
Our players include these great features: Play most popular non-protected file types, fully accessible FM Radio with many presets, record from radio or voice notes with built-in mono mic, expandable up to an extra 64GB with microSD cards, speed up or slow down tracks without affecting pitch, wake up alarm and sleep timer, compatible with Windows, MAC, and Linux operating systems, just copy and paste folders and files onto the player or memory card, outstanding sound, plus much more! All models now shipping with newly-improved firmware!
