Lauren,
I would think your apartment manager would be able to answer this type of 
question. I thought heat pumps were only for houses with electric heat, but 
not sure.

Hi,
I don't really know whether my apt has a heat pump or not. All I know is
that there is a furnace-type metal door on the wall and the sound comes from
there and the heat or a/c is distributed up near the ceiling. I think there
might be an a/c compressor outside but I don't know about any heat pump. I'm
not sure what that is or where it would be located.

When I was investegating this possibility,  I would click on the link
appropriate for what I needed.  One for a heat pump wouldn't have worked for
me.  Heat and air conditioning was more appropriate for me.  I'm certain
they could assist you by phone.
