[Electronics-talk] talking ear thermometers

Here's the dirty little secret about these talking ear thermometers the
manufacturerers don't want you to know. Almost all of them run on non-user
replaceable coin or button cell batteries, just like those darned talking
watches that always seem to die the day after the return period expires.
While a dead talking watch might not be a big deal, a dead ear thermometer
could certainly be a big deal if you or your child is not feeling well and
you need to take temperature only to discover that it doesn't work because
the battery is dead. I'm fed up with products that run on batteries that
are not user replaceable. I have a whole drawer full of dead talking fever
thermometers purchased from ILA and Maxi-Aids, so I searched high and low
for a talking ear/forehead thermometer that runs on user replaceable
batteries. I finally discovered the Mobi Ultra talking ear/forehead
thermometer, model 70119, which runs on two easily replaceable AAA
batteries. At about $25, it ain't cheap initially, but in the long run,
it's cheaper than buying a new thermometer every time its battery dies.
Plus, when I don't feel well and want to take my temperature, I can just pop
in a fresh pair of batteries if the thermometer doesn't work. The Mobi
Ultra lets you take temperature in your ear or on your forehead, speaks in a
clear female voice and has a talking clock to boot. What are you gonna do
if one of those cheap talking ear thermometers dies when you really need it?
Run over to WalMart with a raging fever? I don't think so. Mobi Ultra
digital thermometer:
