Are the voices free to download to the phone?  If not, how much do they 
cost?  I heard the original Android speech synthesizer and it sounds to 
mechanical.

I don't know which voice you heard with Android, but there are many
voices you can get, and many of them sound as good as or better than
the iPhone.
